This title looks at ways governments can promote the creation of more and better jobs in the region. The book addresses the question as to why labor market outcomes have been disappointing during the transition and suggests policy interventions to promote firms’ investment, job creation and economic development. This requires tacking different bottlenecks of the investment climate, ranging from high business risks and under developed institutions in the low income CIS countries, to poor governance and administrative barriers in middle income CIS and Southeastern Europe, to labor market rigidities and skill mismatch in Central and Eastern Europe.
